Facilities
VQL, a 501(c)(3) corporation will create a center
for residents of the Lower Northern Neck and adjacent Middle Peninsula
in Tidewater that is a partnership of the Lower
Northern Neck YMCA, the American
Red Cross - Lancaster County, the Northern
Neck Free Health Clinic, and Rappahannock
General Hospital. This partnership will allow for a center
of health, wellness and recreation for the community.
Lower Northern Neck YMCA
The Northern Neck YMCA is dedicated to to developing character through
programs that promote health of body, mind and spirit. The new YMCA
building houses a health and wellness center, a studio area for aerobics
and dance, two full gymnasiums with courts to accommodate indoor soccer
and volleyball, two racquetball courts, an indoor track, a computer
lab, a child-watch center and eventually an indoor pool. The YMCA services
through all of its programs some 10,000 people annually.
In addition to fitness facilities, the YMCA includes
summer programs, child care, and aquatic programs. The aquatic program
includes classes for older adults suffering from arthritis and other
mobility hindering issues. The teen center with computers and adult
supervision and child care center for children up to the age of 12 ensure
that our community's youth have activities to inspire creativity and
learning in a safe environment. The YMCA also provides scholarships
for our community. The YMCA is dedicated to serving the community.
The American Red Cross - Lancaster
County
The Lancaster County American Red Cross has been providing services
for the community for over 70 years. Over 200 volunteers provide disaster
assistance, community blood drives, certified swimming and safety classes
as well as services to our service men and women and their families.
Lancaster County has received the distinction of taking on the responsibility
of the administrative duties of several neighboring county chapters
of the Red Cross as well. The facilities provided by the VQL
to the Red Cross will enable the Lancaster County chapter to
expand its services not only to our county but many of the neighboring
communities. This will ensure that the communities can better coordinate
to help each other when aid is needed.
Northern Neck Free Health Clinic
The Northern Neck Free Health Clinic provides
medical services, patient education, laboratory procedures, radiological
procedures, medications, referrals, and dietary and nutritional consultations
to the community. This full clinic is supported by donations and grants.
The clinic has grown from a one day a week service
to being open five days a week, and two evenings. Through the generosity
of over 193 volunteer physicians, nurses, lab techs, pharmacists, board
members and administrative workers, the free clinic has been able to
provide free health care to members of our community who are uninsured
and/or would not be able to afford the medical services provided.
Through the VQL facility, the
Northern Neck Free Health Clinic will not only be able to continue to
provide free medical services to more members of our community, but
will be able to plan to expand their services into dental and counseling
services.
Rappahannock General Hospital
Rappahannock General
Hospital has gone beyond just providing services of a typical rural
hospital. RGH Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine program includes two
outpatient centers and inpatient care. The Kilmarnock Center is relocating
to the new VQL facility in our community. This facility
will provide rehabilitation and sports medicine services for Kilmarnock
and much of the surrounding area.
By having the RGH Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine
Facility on the same grounds as the YMCA, Red Cross and free health
clinic, will maximize the effectiveness of the services provided to
our community.
