Virginia Quality Life
Rural life is popularly believed to be idyllic,
healthy, and free of stress. But the truth is that that poverty rate
in rural America is higher than in urban areas, unemployment is higher,
and rural residents have poorer health.
Fewer rural residents are completing college
and other education that is increasingly necessary for success in today's
economy.
Virginia Quality
Life is a multi-faceted health,
recreation, and education center that will improve the health and lives
of all residents on the rural Lower Northern Neck and adjacent Middle
Peninsula in Tidewater Virginia. It's a partnership of the Lower
Northern Neck YMCA, the American Red Cross - Lancaster County, the Northern
Neck Free Heath Clinic, and Rappahannock General Hospital.
Through VQL, all four organization
will gain the new facilities they need
- without expensive
duplication.
Located
in Kilmarnock, VQL has brought to our community:
- A Rehabilitation Center
- A Gym and Indoor Track
- An Adult Fitness Area
- A Day Care Center
- A Teen Center
- A Computer Lab for Educational Instruction
- A Community Meeting / Education Room
- An Indoor Swimming Pool
- A Free Health Clinic
